Difficulty Losing Weight - Try Pairing With A Buddy!

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Hema Murty Have you tried every dieting and weight loss method known to man and failed? Are you still searching for that magic solution to keep it off and get health? Get a buddy! Just tell someone who you dont know that you are trying to lose weight and have them help you get there. Family and friends do not work because they can become annoying. You would probably destroy your relationship if you assigned this task to them. However, a total stranger is different. We feel we have to be looked up to by strangers. So if you tell someone you dont know, you feel more responsible to live up to your task. It is like a friend or family member teaching you how to drive. It is very hard to separate the relationship from the instruction. Find someone knowledgeable about weight loss and health. Have them check in on you as often as you want. You an even have someone call you up in the morning to get you to the gym or workout. If you chose to start a morning half hour walk, just have someone call you and make sure you are up to do the walk. There are no shortcuts here. Getting healthy and maintaining it is real work. It is like your career or family and must take a prominent place alongside those aspects of your life. Make a workout schedule and give your designate a copy. Probably a once a week phone/email meeting with them to inquire whether you were honest to your workout is enough. However, if you require more of a kick to get going, dont be afraid to ask for a daily check in or wake up call. Your buddy doesnt have to work out with you or even be physically in the same place. They just need to keep you honest. Try this system for 4 months and see if it doesnt make a difference. Honesty pays off! Affordable buddy system available by email from http://www.getshanti.com For the past 20 years Hema has worked with many individuals, including executives at large corporations, to reduce stress, improve general health and workplace productivity. The Tribrain and Trauma Therapy

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Jef Gazley When someone experiences a trauma they go into immediate shock. This is very similar to hypnosis. Under hypnosis a person is more suggestible and tends to remember everything that occurred while in that state, even if it is on a subconscious level. Because of this a person, when abused, will remember vividly everything about what it was to feel like a victim and they will also remember everything about what it is like to be an abuser. When an event is traumatic and confusing enough, we tend to internalize it in a futile attempt to control or master it. In some cases a victim will subconsciously embrace the victims role and will tend to be drawn towards abusers and feel sorry for them. Others embrace the abusers role and then act it out on others. Some people do a bit of both. This tendency is the origin of Freuds repetition compulsion. It is a misguided attempt at the concept of mastery. When we cannot master a task we become obsessed with the task until we figure out what we have done wrong and thereby solve the problem. Concept of mastery is one of the major ways that human beings learn. A repetition compulsion however, is simply doing the same thing over and over again. A person who has been abused often feels at fault for the abuse and therefore subconsciously chooses abusers even when consciously trying to pick a kind and healthy person. This is healthy learning gone awry. To understand the dynamics of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder one has to understand how the three brains and the body work. The Cerebrum and Prefrontal Cortex are the human part of the brain and operate by rational thought. This brain is linear and causal and therefore if something is explained to this part of the brain and a person agrees then they will follow those directions voluntarily. It is the conscious part of our brain. This is the part of our brain that traditional psychotherapy or talk therapy is aimed at. The Limbic system is an older part of the brain that is similar to all mammals brains. It is made up mostly of chemicals called Neurotransmitters that help us think and feel, but not necessarily on a logical basis. The third brain is the Medulla Oblongata and is located at the base of the skull. It is a brain which we share with all Reptiles. It deals with instincts and unconscious processes. It is definitely not rational in the way it thinks. All the cells in the body are connected and are capable of body memory and therefore are all minute brains. Candice Pert, the discoverer of Endorphins and the Enkephalin System, postulates that our feelings are in some way yet to be understood, involved with the Enkephalin System that is located in every cell of our body. She believes that this web of endorphins/feelings constitute a highly evolved, yet intricate brain system. In a real sense each cell is composed of a primary primitive brain. Often these brains work quicker than the others that I have mentioned. All the brains, except the Human one, work on the basis of Pavlovs dog or conditioning. If something is repeated enough or is so powerful in its effect that learning gets imprinted it becomes very hard to dislodge it even when situations change. That is why feelings or habits change so slowly after the unconscious thoughts have already changed. Without some kind of intervention to change or block the stimulus/response dynamic, those more primitive brains and the body often will lag 2-5 years behind the Cerebrum and at times will remain active indefinitely. This is why people find it so hard to change and are often confused and frustrated by their inability to do so. This can make people who are quite intelligent unable to fix a problem and they therefore conclude that they must be stupid or lazy. That is not the case. There are three major ways to effect change quicker and less painfully than traditional psychotherapy, which works for the most part only with the human brain. The first technique is Hypnosis. Since people are more sensitive and suggestible under hypnosis this is often an effective way to cut the stimulus/response patterns. A clinician can ask the client to experience the past painful experience with a greater sense of calm or with more effective skills than they had as a child. This alters the experience of the original trauma itself. Hypnosis can be quite beneficial, but does not seem to be as helpful as some of the newer techniques listed below. It appears that the newer models of therapy often produce more congruence and longer lasting change than I have found with hypnosis. It also takes longer and is less versatile. The second way is EMDR, which is an effective and quick way to deal with trauma and is widely practiced. It is a new therapy that is fast and relatively painless. It is based on the theory that REM or rapid eye movements, which occur during dreaming, is the way that our brain shifts short-term memory to long-term memory. Long-term memory doesnt have much emotion or immediacy connected to it. Clients hold the most salient aspect of the trauma in their mind as the therapist moves a couple of fingers of their hand in front of their face to induce rapid eye movements. This seems to recreate the trauma and cause a mini abreaction. After just a few sessions clients usually report remembering the trauma without the emotion. The third and fourth ways are sister therapies, but Neuro Emotional Technique or NET is by far the more sophisticated, versatile, and effective. Neuro Emotional Technique or NET was originally practiced by chiropractors and only later taught to mental health therapists. It is still very difficult to find a counselor proficient in this technique as yet. It is based on Chinese medicine and the Acupuncture and Meridian Systems. It allows a clinician to follow the bodys own present traumas and feelings and discover whether these feelings might be related to past traumas. It then enables a clinician to tap lightly on a few points of the body around the spine and the toxic memory is released. This allows the affected person to be more fully in the present adult mode where effective action and change is easier to initiate. If a persons adult abandonment feelings are complicated by feeling the abandonment they felt when they were 10 years old, a person will be less competent in the present situation. NET releases old and present traumas residing in the body quickly and effectively. TFT, or Thought Field Therapy, which is also based on the Meridian System, is another quick and painless therapy and more clinicians are trained in this technique. It is not as versatile as NET and its diagnostic abilities are limited in my opinion, but it relieves some fears and phobias quite effectively by tapping on various acupressure points. All of these power therapies seem to work to effect change on levels other than the conscious plane. They are often quicker and more effective than traditional forms of therapy. This is because they focus on the more primitive brains, which are not usually reached by older therapy models. I believe fully that insight is important and this is often provided by traditional counseling, but change is not as quick or complete without accessing the more fundamental brains. This is done most efficiently by the newer therapies. 2004 Jef Gazley, M.S., LMFT www.asktheinternettherapist.com www.hypnosistapes4health.com JEF GAZLEY, M.S., LMFT, DCC has practiced psychotherapy for over thirty years and is the owner operator of http://www.asktheinternettherapist.com since 1998 and http://www.hypnosistapes4health.com. Detox Diet

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Sharon G.Price A detox diet is a diet where the individual makes a complete change in their consumption habits so that the body gets detoxified by removing toxins and contaminants. With a detox diet, it is possible to improve health, energy, digestion, mental state, your resistance to disease and even experience weight loss. The modifications that you have to make in detox diet includes fasting with juice fasting and water fasting, increasing the consumption of fish like salmon, restriction in calorie intake and using a herbal detox or master cleanse called the lemonade diet. Most important, a detox diet calls for more of fruits and vegetables in ones food intake, limitations in processed food and the elimination of alcohol and smoking. The main reason people go on a detox diet is because a human body ingests lots of water, food and air in a day. It is very possible that fat soluble chemicals existing in them get deposited in the cells of the body. With a poor diet, the human body cannot detoxify these chemicals and this leads to a further build up of toxic waste in the body which in turn leads to illnesses, hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies and a weak metabolism. Once you go on a detox diet, you tend to experience improved energy, have regular bowel movements, find an increase in concentration and clarity in life, improvement in your digestion and clearer skin. However before you go on a detox diet, it is better that you consult with your doctor to see if the detox diet is appropriate for you. Nursing women, children and pregnant women should never go on a detox diet. People with anemia, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, cancer, low blood pressure and with additions to drugs and alcohol should not go on a detox diet unless advised by the doctor. Like all good things in life, a detox diet too has its side effects of which the most common one is a headache that starts within a few days of the start of the detox diet. This is often due to the sudden quitting of caffeine. This is why practitioners often suggest a gradual stopping of caffeine instead of a sudden stop. In fact, some people take time off for a detox diet or start it on Friday night to last the weekend. Some people go through a bout of diarrhea because of dehydration and a loss of electrolyte while there are some people who increase their fiber intake, but dont drink sufficient water. This in turn leads to constipation. Prolonged use of a detox diet can lead to a deficiency of nutrients, especially proteins and calcium as some detox diets omit animal products. Other side effects of the detox diet include acne, weight loss, hunger, irritability and tiredness. If you find any worsening of these symptoms when on a detox diet, it is advised to visit a qualified health professional immediately. You never know if these symptoms had arisen because of the detox diet or because of some other underlying cause as the symptoms of some diseases like cancer similar to the side effects of a detox diet. http://www.letsdetox.com is an informative site relating to detoxing, detox kits, detox, weight loss and cleansing products. http://www.letsdetox.com also has information on how to lose weight using a detox program. Exercise More and Eat Less - Why Is It So Difficult?

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Gene D. Millen Are you on the road to Blobville or Heart Health City? Although the legendary Yankees catcher/manager Yogi Berra had an outstanding career in baseball he is no doubt better known for his colorful quotes. One of Yogi’s famous sayings that never fails to make me chuckle is “When you come to a fork in the road take it.” Maybe it’s because it describes my approach to life more often than I’d care to admit. Choosing the wrong fork in the road often leads to dodging potholes and ending up at an unexpected destination. As usual Yogi said best, “If you don’t know where you’re going, you will wind up somewhere else.” I seriously considered making some New Year’s resolutions to help me mend my ways because that seems to be the “in” thing to do. Historians tell us that this ritual has been going on since Babylonian times some 4,000 years ago. Resolutions must work for a lot of people or the custom would have died out by now. According to people who keep track of such things, two of the most often made resolutions are to exercise more and eat less. We know that these are admirable traits that would improve our heart health but “It ain’t easy.” If these items were reversed I’m sure that most of us would have more success at keeping them. Why don’t we achieve our health and fitness goals? We are smart enough and usually know what to dobut don’t do what we know. We have good intentions but “busyness”, procrastination and lack of discipline take control of our lives. And there’s one more thing to add to the mix of resolution busters. All human beings have deep-seated natural tendencies, which go back to prehistoric times. It is in our genes to conserve our energy and avoid unnecessary activity unless there is an immediate compelling need… such as fleeing from a charging tiger that is looking for a quick lunch. It is also natural to choose pleasure over pain. If we understand how these instincts work we can devise strategies to cope with them. So how do we outwit Mother Nature? It “ain’t” easy but it can be done. Be patient and work for gradual change. We didn’t get this way over night. It took years of traveling down the wrong road. Set achievable short-range positive goals. They will help you to stick with it when you are tempted to slide. Visualize your successhow good you will feel and look as you move down the path toward excellent health and well being. Don’t let a setback throw you. If you slip, don’t quit! As Yogi once said, “it ain’t over till it’s over” One of the things to keep foremost in your mind is that fitness is a journeynot a destination. It has to become a part of your lifestyle. Lifestyle is defined by Webster’s dictionary as, “Way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of a person.” You must be convinced in your mind that the changes you have been putting off making are really important or you probably won’t stick with it. Are you are approaching a fork in the road? Why not take Yogi’s advice? ABOUT THE AUTHOR The cardiologist looked up from the treadmill report and grimly stated, “You are a walking time bomb. You need to go to the hospital immediately.” Two days later a heart surgeon sawed open Gene Millen’s chest and stitched in bypasses to six clogged arteries. “A six way heart bypass isn’t a record” said Gene, “but it’s not bad for a skinny 59 year old with normal cholesterol and blood pressure. The villains and heroes in the heart attack melodrama may surprise you as they have me.” Gene Millen reviews new research on heart attack risks that are more dangerous than high cholesterol… and how natural supplements and heart vitamins can send them packing! Developing a Marketing Strategy

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By John Nilson Marketing strategies are very important for successful business development of a company. This is why it is necessary to choose a proper strategy in order to achieve positive results. In our case, I have chosen the new car developed by GM as a subject to apply an effective marketing strategy. In fact it should be said that in order to choose the best strategy it is necessary to properly understand the goals of the company and the goals it faces in introducing a new product. Since GM is a well-known brand than the marketing strategy should aim at the promotion of the product in possibly wider markets. At this respect, among the varieties of strategies, the most effective seems to be the horizontal integration. In all probability this strategy would be the most successful since it implies the promotion and introduction of the new product, i.e. the new car developed by GM in many markets. It is obvious that GM has a strong basis for successful implementation of this strategy since it is widely represented in many countries of the world and the company has not only its plants in various countries throughout the world but the marketing well developed net as well that makes sells of the new car quite easy but naturally on the condition of the proper promotion of the product. Consequently on introducing the new car GM has to provide different markets where the company is represented with sufficient amount of the cars and organize an effective advertising campaign in order to promote the new car in the markets. Finally it would be highly recommendable to enter new markets along with old ones. John Nilson is a senior writer at Custom Essays Writing Service. How To Use Natural Remedies For Common Ailments

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Jon Arnold Most people dont seem to realize that the use of natural remedies for various common ailments is far less costly than their prescription counterparts, as well as usually being much healthier for you. There are herbal and botanical products that some experts consider as natural remedies and alternatives to prescription drugs. With the introduction of products that can hurt our bodies just as much as they help us, the popularity of natural herbal remedies parties is growing. This article will outline some of those common ailments where you may be paying out big bucks today for prescription medications. Good General Health Natural, herbal remedies as a means to maintain good health and cure certain diseases are valid. If a cough continues after natural remedies or even after taking prescription medications, you should consult your doctor as quickly as possible. There are various herb and herbal spices that have been used for thousands of years to promote good health, and scientific studies have shown the positive effects of many of these to be more than just legend or folklore. For example, there are some Chinese herbs that have been used by the Chinese for more than 4000 years to promote good health and for use as healing agents. Skin Many people, especially teens, are afflicted with acne, and there are many over the counter medications and treatments for acne. But for those of us whose skin requires a bit more help, there are natural acne treatments available that can help improve your acne, as well as your general skin tones. Some people have veins below their eyes which appear prominently when the under-eye skin becomes dry and thin. While the thickness of the under-eye skin is primarily hereditary, there are several natural remedies that can make it look better and less prominent. For more information about effective treatment of acne, please visit the Acne Health and Relief Site. Hair Most of us, especially men as they get older, would agree that hair loss affects their self-image and self esteem to a very large extent. There is no sure-fire way to prevent all hair loss, but there are some natural remedies that have been used that have been proven to work on some people. In minor cases of temporary hair loss, hair growth can be stimulated by massage, since blood and oxygen flow to the scalp must be healthy in order for hair to grow. Ear There are many natural herbal ear cleaners and wash on the market. Particular care should be used with ear treatment, since the membrane of the eardrum is very sensitive and can be punctured if you are not careful. Some natural remedies can relieve ear aches, especially in children who are very prone to ear aches at young ages. Heartburn and Indigestion Very few people can claim that they never suffer from heartburn or indigestion, and for people that do, a simple over the counter solution like Tums or Rolaids resolves the problem. But for people that suffer from heartburn or indigestion on a much more regular basis, there are several natural remedies that can aid with this. One such remedy claims that as much as 97% of cases being corrected without the use of drugs or prescription medications, with notably fewer side effects. Natural health remedies are worth your effort to look into, not only to treat symptoms that already exist but also for the purpose of maintaining a healthy body without aches and pains. You may find that you like it better than traditional prescriptions from your doctor, and will almost certainly find that natural remedies incur far fewer side effects. No Credit Check Auto Loans

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kristy_Annely]Kristy Annely No credit check auto loans are termed as secured loans by the experts, because in these loans the vehicle purchased by the borrower is part of the loan’s collateral. However, vehicles depreciate, so financial institutions need additional collateral to secure the vehicle loan without a credit check. When lending funds, the bank inquires from the borrower the purpose for which he seeks the loan. Banks do not grant loans for each and every purpose–they ensure the safety and liquidity of their funds by granting loans for productive purposes. Loans are not advanced for speculative and unproductive purposes, like social functions, ceremonies or for the repayment of a prior loan. Banks and financial institutions use the principle of diversification of risks when giving auto loans. A prudent banker always tries to select the borrower very carefully and takes tangible assets as securities to safeguard his interests. Tangible assets are no doubt valuable and the banker feels safe while granting advances on the security of such assets, yet some risk is always involved therein. Banks are profit-earning institutions. They must employ their funds profitably so as to earn sufficient income out of which to pay interest to the depositors, salaries to the staff and to meet various other establishment expenses. In no credit check auto loans, the variations in the rates of interest charged from different customers depend upon the degree of risk involved in lending to them. A customer with a good reputation is charged a lower rate of interest as compared to an ordinary customer. The sound principle of lending is not to sacrifice safety or liquidity for the sake of higher profitability. That is to say, banks should not grant advances to unsound parties with doubtful repaying capacity, even if they are ready to pay a very high rate of interest. Such advances ultimately prove detrimental of the interests of the bank and its depositors. Relationships: Give Attention! To Your Honey

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Steve Roberts Couples need to give each other a lot of attention to keep their relationship healthy. But everything around us seems to pull our attention away from our partner. What is left over for our mate by the end of the day may be very, very little. Blessed are you if you are among the few that can give your partner intensional, quality attention most of the time! For the rest of us mortals, here are some points for ensuring that we put the time and attention where it is needed. 1. The Long View Imagine you’re at the end of your life looking back. Will you likely be saying, “Gee, I wish I’d spent more time at the office,” or, “Darn it, I really wish I’d spent more time with my spouse and family?” This makes it pretty clear for most of us. But how to remember to ask ourselves this perspective question frequently? You might create a screen saver that flashes the question at you. You could put it on a card and always carry it in a pocket. How about writing it on a small piece of paper and carry it in a locket? You could tape the question to your bathroom mirror, the telephone, the steering wheel of your car, and the molding next to the door through which you leave the house. Maybe your mate would be willing to ask you this question daily. Afterall, it’s about remembering how much you really do value your relationship with this person. 2. The Short View What do you like about your partner? Look closer! Notice the curve of the bridge of her/his nose, that spot on the neck where you like to put your lips, and that look on his/her face as a hot idea is percolating. What an incredible being you have there! Notice it now! 3. The Daily View It really seems like too simple of an exercize, but do it anyway and be amazed at how well it works: Make a pact to give each other a complement every day. I don’t mean a watered down run-of-the-mill “you look nice” kind of a complement, but one you’ve thought about and that really means something. Pretty soon you’re going to have to really think to come up with something good! 4. Ongoing: Build Positive Associations Every time we have a negative encounter with our partner our brain starts to form a negative expectation for seeing this person again. As long as we have more positive encounters than negative ones then this isn’t a problem. But with a cynical, skeptical or critical outlook we often find the negative in our partner more often than not. Then throw in a few challenges to our behavior from our mate and fairly soon we’re not looking forward to being together. Yuck! It will take solid intentions on your part to beat this pattern. You’ve got to look for positives in any encounter with your partner. You need to set your mind on finding the affirming thought, the kind notion, or the benefit of the doubt. No way is this easy! But it’s doable. Take responsibility for what your mind is doing! Make sure you find the positive in each encounter with your partner. 5. The Weekly View Every week have a date together. Nope, no kids. Just the two of you. How can you be kids together if you’ve got kids along to parent? If you don’t have these dates you’ll forget the joy of playing the romancing game together. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. A walk in the park or a hamburger will do. Or, maybe a movie or an ice cream cone. Just find time together that is specially set aside for the two of you that always happens. If your relationship is important to you, then you can find a way to keep that importance before you. But it won’t be easy! There are just too many distractions available every day to pull and push at us. But, be reminded, that they are just distractions, and the real value lies in what you have with your mate. For Women, Dating is an Ageless Activity

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Ronnie Ann Ryan Recently, I spoke to college women about dating at the Women’s Image Conference at Sacred Heart University in CT. Having been out of college for “some years,” I wasnt sure what this age group would want to know. To prepare, I talked with a few women in their 20’s, currently attending college. How surprised was I to discover that things aren’t that different from the issues I discuss with women 35+. Here’s what the younger generation says or wants to know about finding a loving relationship: Many are putting off dating to focus on getting good grades and finishing schoolA few said dating was a lot like a bad shopping trip The answer to many dating dilemmas is basic common senseStrategies to turn guy friends into boyfriends Thinking about the answers to these questions and concerns, I came up with a well-received presentation, which I’ll highlight here: Put Off Dating Until an Ideal Future Time First of all, while it sounds like a good idea to put off looking for love while getting settled in life, a lot depends on how long that settling process takes. Postponing the search for a life mate becomes problematic when you start to realize there will never be a truly convenient time to look. The next project, promotion, or new client will always require your attention. There’s a great quote about putting work first and your life on hold that states, “No one ever put ‘Wish I worked more’ on their grave stone.” Good point. There’s no better time than the present to give your social life and search for love the attention it deserves. As I often remind my clients the number one priority in life is you! Pry yourself out of the “work is more important” rut and get out there to find the love you deserve. This is good advice for any age. Dating is Like a Bad Shopping Trip This can be true when you aren’t clear about what you want in a partner. If you don’t have a list of qualities that describe your ideal partner start one right now! Knowing the personality characteristics that will mesh with you and specific qualities helps you eliminate prospects that won’t suit you. And it will help you take a second look at a possible suitor, who might have escaped your attention otherwise. Rely on Common Sense to Handle Issues These 20 year old women shocked the stuffing out of me when they told me with straight faces that most of dating boiled down to common sense. Who were these girls and who brought them up to be so incredibly smart? I know plenty of women more than twice their age who are still trying to figure out what their men are doing. Forget figuring it out use common sense instead. If he’s treating you poorly, not keeping promises, not around much, or inconsistent, then wake up and smell the coffee. Stop making excuses for bad behavior. Converting Friends into Romantic Partners Lastly, while there are no hard/fast rules about male friends, the likelihood that they can be converted to boyfriend status is amazingly slim. If you’ve been friends for a while and find romantic feelings sprouting, see less of your buddy and go out to meet new people. People often rely on opposite sex friends as replacement for lack of a romantic interest. That’s not a bad thing, but it can become a crutch if you’re avoiding finding a romantic relationship. Generally, if a man has romantic interest, he’ll do something about it. If he hasn’t made a move, he probably isn’t going to. And, the longer you’ve been friends, the bigger the risk of ruining the relationship you already have. Either way, these men aren’t likely to shift gears, so move on to find someone who doesn’t have confusing friendship baggage with you. In the end, whether you are 20 something, or 60 something, the dating process is surprisingly similar. Wear something fabulous to boost your confidence, put on a smile and get out there to find the love you want and deserve.
